Father Pierre-Julien Eymard and the Curé d’Ars were both buried successively in the same shrine! (the Curé d’Ars from 1905 to 1925, and Father Eymard from then on). In fact, there are many similarities between these two saints, who were both friends.
Both came from simple, religious families and were touched by their First Communion and the grace of the Real Presence.
Both were rejected by their fathers when they wanted to become priests.
Faced with the difficulties they encountered, one went on pilgrimage to La Louvesc and the other to Notre-Dame-du-Laus.
Pierre-Julien Eymard was finally ordained on 8 July 1834 in the same chapel as the Curé d’Ars (Grenoble seminary), and was appointed vicar at Chatte (Isère) for two and a half years (the same length of time as J-M Vianney).
He then became parish priest of Monteynard.
The parishioners of both priests were quickly touched by their prayer and sense of sacrifice; the same observations could be made in both villages!
Appointed headmaster of the Collège de Belley in 1839, he joined the Society of Mary (Marists).
He became provincial in 1844 and then superior of the Third Order of Mary in 1845.
